Expert Insight Session: Peer-to-Peer Support — Benefits & Strategies

In this Expert Insight Session, we explored how peer-to-peer support can strengthen survivorship care by addressing needs that are often difficult to meet in clinical settings alone—such as identity shifts, fear of recurrence, isolation, and the need for practical “how do I live with this now?” guidance.

Jackie Herigodt (Imerman Angels) and Cheryl Lecroy (The After Cancer) discussed what makes peer support effective, which patients are most likely to benefit, and how clinicians can introduce it in a way that feels safe, credible, and aligned with medical care. The session also covered practical strategies for referral and implementation, including how to set expectations, reduce common barriers to participation, and integrate peer support into survivorship pathways and multidisciplinary follow-up.
