Supporting oncology clinicians with practical strategies to prevent burnout, process grief, and protect emotional wellbeing.
Expert Insight Session: The Emotional Weight of Working in Oncology
In this Expert Insight Session, we highlighted a reality many don’t see: working in oncology is deeply meaningful, but also emotionally demanding. Clinicians are often the bearers of difficult news, needing to be present for patients and families during some of the hardest moments of their lives. Over time, this constant exposure to suffering, uncertainty, and grief can take a real toll on a clinician’s wellbeing.
We brought together two leading voices — Dr. Janet Abrahm, M.D., Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and expert in palliative care, and Dr. Tommy Bischoff, LMFT, Adjunct Professor at UNC — to discuss the unique emotional pressures oncology providers face and share strategies to protect and support mental and emotional health.
Designed for oncology clinicians, this session offers understanding, insights, and practical tools for those who give so much of themselves to care for others.
